Although just 26 square miles, Cannock Chase was designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1958 and attracts 2.5 million visitors annually for the natural beauty of its rugged heaths of purple heather and quiet woodlands.

Now loved as an idyllic setting for leisurely walks, horse rides and cycling, this unspoilt wilderness was once a medieval royal hunting forest for William the Conqueror, with fallow deer, possibly descended from the original herd, still roaming free.
